Untitled #3

"I Did love you," he said.
And though his eyes welled with tears
I did not believe him.
We've done this before.  Right in this place.
After years of rejection and hurt
He said that he loved me through it all.
It's three months since the last break-up.
His standard limit of aloneness.
I shouldn't have been surprised when he said,
"I know that I didn't act like I loved you,
But I wanted to spare you the pain of my love."
I was surprised - dispite how typical it was.
I should have expected it.
I accept his apology, but not his hand.
I should have done this a long time ago.
This time, I refuse to look back.
